Analysts are typically recent undergraduates who work long hours and do a fair bit of grunt work. A good analyst helps his or her boss get their job done and done well. Analysts are not normally expected to contribute in meetings but often can. After the typical two-year analyst program at a major investment bank, many analysts return to school for an MBA before coming back to investment banking. Others choose to try other opportunities. During recruiting out of an MBA program, former analysts will be at a significant advantage over others without experience.

OVERVIEW
Concerns of a wider debt crisis in the Euro zone resurfaced in November as Ireland accepted emergency financial aid. Despite a
US$113 billion bailout package by the European Union (EU) and International Monetary Fund (IMF), investor confidence remained
fragile on expectations that Portugal and Spain could also require financial support. Ireland became the second EU country, after
Greece, to receive emergency funds from the IMF and EU. In Asia, the G20 summit was held in South Korea, where world leaders
pledged to continue efforts to ensure strong and sustainable growth, job creation and global demand. On November 23, North Korea
and South Korea engaged in an artillery duel near their borders, sparking off a fresh round of tensions on the Korean Peninsula. The
correction in equity prices was short-lived as investors focused on the long-term opportunities and prospects. Within this
environment, emerging stock markets declined, with the MSCI Emerging Markets index ending November down 2.6% in US$ terms,
in part due to weaker emerging market currencies.

The extension of current income-tax rates gives wealthy taxpayers the equivalent of an interest-free loan if they convert a regular Individual Retirement Account to a Roth by Dec. 31.
Investors in traditional IRAs pay taxes up front on conversions to Roth IRAs to get tax-free withdrawals later. Earners in the highest tax brackets who expected rates to rise next year were faced with reporting all the additional income from conversions on their 2010 returns. With the tax legislation, wealthy savers can now defer and use those tax dollars to earn something, according to Christine Fahlund, a senior financial planner at Baltimore-based T. Rowe Price Group Inc.
